It was late. The sun was hanging heavy over the horizon. After a hard days work many folk of the Weyr were probably trying to relax. Some had retreated for naps, others were playing a few games to lift the mood, and more still were eating. Generally speaking the day was starting to come to a close.
To one woman it was a relief. But at the same time she felt a sense of accomplishment. She felt as if her work had made a difference, no matter how small. It was a gratifying feeling to know others lives had been made that much more comfortable for her efforts. Still, it was nice to kick back after dealing with the stresses of the day. And since coming to the Weyr she had picked up a hobby of sorts, one that was quite soothing.
After cleaning up in the infirmary Milune had gone back to her room. She had changed into more comfortable clothing and put her hair up. Pianist fingers had then wrapped around a fishing pole she'd traded a set of boots for. It wasn't the best made on Pern, but it was sturdy and the string was strong. The hook was also functional so there wasn't much of a problem in her eyes. Besides, with the grubs she had dug out of some dead trees the hook wouldn't be visible to the fish.
The lass gave her cat a pat on the head (she was sleeping on her bed) then was out the door again. After a little meandering she eventually made her way to the lake. She had a spot there she looked to sit and dangle her legs in. It was deep and the rock shelf she had found was the perfect spot. Once she shucked off her boots and rolled up her pants it was there that she sat.
Popping open the container filled with grub worms she unearthed one of the unfortunate critters. It was thick and long, wriggling frantically in her hands. The poor creatures efforts only intensified when she hooked it, but there was no saving it now. Once she was satisfied that it wasn't going to fall off she cast her line, watching it plop out a good four yards then sink into the water.
Now the best part was coming up, the wait. Sighing a contented sigh the woman leaned back, making herself comfortable against a convenient boulder. Her eyes gradually started to glaze as she zoned out, letting her mind just drift until a fish bit. Who knew, maybe she wouldn't even catch anything? But that wasn't the point, she was just happy to be able to breathe and let her muscles unwind. Besides, it was nice out. What more could she ask for?
