OKAY. SO...
I've been having problems sticking to what characters I want to make for this site. Right now I have about six floating around in my head and, dammit, I wish I could just have them all! However, I think I've cut it down to about four now that I like and that won't be redundant, and Elana and Calin are well on their way to being all done and stuff, but here's where you come in...
In order to make my other two sufficiently interesting so I won't become bored and dump them, I'd like to bounce ideas off of y'all and see what I get (which is partially so that I don't make them boring and partially so that I don't make them too ridiculously emo). Sound good? Good. I thought so. ^^
MY IDEAS
Mina. 18. Apathetic/Pansexual? Runner.
Mina came from a long line of Holdless Traders, so she definitely knows how to survive on her own. However, emotionally she's a bit... interesting. This is partially because of the whole End-Of-The-World thing and partially because when she was younger, around thirteen turns or so, she was raped. This guy had a borderline unhealthy interest in her to begin with, but when they were off on their in a place that happened to be under a Gold's flight, his fanaticism regarding her moved from thought to action. Yet, just to make things worse, Mina never told anyone and she and the guy remained regrettably in the company of one another up until after the Ending Fall. Out of their clan they were the only survivors, and thus out of circumstances she was forced to stick with him. However, when he showed signs of VT, she had no hesitation in killing the poor bastard. As such, she managed to find someone with a boat and made her way to Hope Hold, where she switched occupations to Runner and made her living running messages between Hope Hold and Weyr Hold. Mina, for the most part, seems rather normal and happy enough considering the circumstances. However, she's rather distrusting of people in general, much more of men who remind her of her nightmarish acquaintance. Also, she's liable to freak out on occasion and do things that seem sort of out of place or out of line. Furthermore, she carries no bonds to people. If she thinks you have VT or that you're going to cause her untimely death, she'll -ahem- "remedy" the situation first chance she gets without a second thought. In a sense, Mina is very much a survivalist.
Tegren. 21. Heterosexual. Journeyman Vintner.
Tegren grew up in Benden and from a young age had a fascination with the alcoholic drinks adults were so enamored with. Well, okay, this isn't entirely true... he didn't develop such a fascination until he was old enough to understand the merit of a fine glass of wine, and he certainly was never enamored with the effects it had on a person. But he thought it fascinating anyway, and as such was apprenticed into the Vintner craft instead of going into Weaving or Harpering like his mother or father respectively. He had a close family and had a rather good childhood and home life... but that made it all the worse when the Ending Fall and VT came. Out of his entire family, only he and his two siblings survived the Ending Fall and were able to find a ship to the safety of the Ring Islands... and out of the three only he and his brother survived the trip. His sister's death due to VT struck Tegren rather hard, and even when he was helping to rebuild the Vintner Craft in Hope Hold (where he was promoted to his Journeyman status) he was changed. While as arrogant and confident as he had ever been, he developed a soft spot for women and children... in particular those in need of his help. Men and boys he was demanding of, but women and girls were just so fragile in his eyes... and in need of protecting. |

My first thought on reading Mina was "Wow, she's just like Medusa!" Raped when young and now distrusting/freaks at those that remind her of the one that did it to her? Yar. However, she does seem interesting beyond this (especially the whole killing bit), so ultimately that's your call.
Tegren looks good to me - interesting backhistory, as bad as everyone has it but not ridiculously over-the-top bad. We do always need males, and especially slightly older males. Again, ultimately your call. Are they both going to be Candidates, I'd assume?

Curses... Well, I can't have Mina being the same as Medusa, now can I? I really should read in-depth the histories of all the characters here instead of just skimming them before I start making my own. x.x
Perhaps I'll model her even more on my friend and, instead of her being skittish and shy around males, have her be far more forthcoming and outright outspoken around them? Like, she feels like since she didn't speak out against the guy the first time, she's going to let her mind be heard to every guy she meets and let it be known she's not going to be walked all over? Perhaps I'll even make her prejudiced against them, a fighter every step of the way with more anger and pride than shame... who will make people know they will suffer two-fold what harm they have caused her even if there is no point. Yet, at the same time, she can be over-the-top bubbly and enjoys little, uncomplicated things in life. Does that sound any better?
And, yes, they'll both be candidates. =)

Sounds like she'll be awesome, Lan! ^_^ Cause Medusa's all skittish, but Mina being all 'rawr, go away!' is amazing. She's gonna kick arse.

Yay! I can start fleshing out their histories now. ^^ Just have to get enough posts to add them to my arsenal.
Mayhaps Medusa and Mina end up being somewhat friendly? (well, as friendly as Mina can be, anyway) And Mina could, like, totally threaten the lives of anyone who touches Medusa and be all "grrr"? Okay, so maybe that's a bit stalker-ish, but she'd be like the big, bad "don't hurt my friends or I kill you" friend?

I'd like that, Lan. Usa's got the majority of the Weyr on her side (since she came in on Ansyth's back), but all the new people are still freaking her out. XD So having someone to be 'grr' would probably be good; though Medusa does stand on her own two feet a bit, since she's had to. Regardless of the protector-bit, she could use a friend!

I know Medusa can stand on her own too feet... But Mina doesn't. In fact, with anyone she eventually befriends she'll probably be really overly-protective about for no reason whatsoever. xD It's part of her charm, I suppose.
EDIT: Actually I just realized there's a whole crapload of water separating Hope Hold and Weyr Hold... I'll have to rethink the whole runner thing. =/ |
